Spanish

Learning a language is an exciting and inspiring opportunity for children, providing a valuable educational, social and cultural experience. It helps them to develop their ability to communicate; building key skills in speaking and listening. It also helps to give pupils a different perspective on the world by encouraging them to explore and appreciate aspects of their own culture and those of others.

In KS2 it is compulsory for all children to learn a modern or ancient foreign language to lay the foundations for further language learning at secondary school. At Gledhow we have chosen to teach Spanish, using the ‘La Jolie Ronde’ scheme of work as a basis for this. This programme offers children the opportunity to learn through age appropriate topics/themes, songs and games and also allows children to listen to authentic Spanish speakers. Please refer to our ‘Spanish Statement of Intent’ for a more detailed overview of the Spanish curriculum on offer.
